The Factory Finish Pre-stain Process for Cedar
Pre-stained or factory finished cedar from WFP means your cedar or fiber cement siding arrives at the job site with a uniform application that is longer-lasting and higher quality than a field application can provide. First, all orders are hand-selected for uniform size, and re-graded as either clear or select knotty cedar. We purchase our cedar green and air dry it down to 19% moisture content before staining. We never kiln dry our cedar just to speed up the process.
Each board is fed into the machine applicator and flooded with stain, as pressure rollers spread the coating evenly. High speed brushes drive the stain into all six sides for maximum protection. Back-priming reduces shrinking and swelling, and improves siding durability. Proper spread rates and uniform color coverage provide a beautiful, consistent factory finish which meets the highest outdoor performance standards.
Boards are Inspected, Dried, Cured and Properly Packaged
Each cedar board or piece of fiber cement siding is reviewed as it exits the machine for appearance. It is then placed onto a drying rack to properly cure the coating. The boards are then air dried for an even cure, and individually inspected as they are prepared for packaging, to ensure proper coverage and appearance.
Your entire WFP Cedar order is then custom-packaged in climate controlled conditions and shipped directly to the job site, with all the boards, trim and accessories required to complete the entire project.
With factory finishing, there's no overspray, dripping, splattering or clean-up problems, no color variation, lap marks, shrink lines, streaking or dirt pick-up. After installing cedar siding that is factory finished, the project is finished immediately.
